The Fall Chapter 5

Home of Darren and Savannah Matthews – Atlanta, GA – Evening – Savannah frowned at the burnt casserole that seemed to get more and more unsightly by the minute. Some things hadn’t changed she chuckled to herself. So, turning off the oven she headed upstairs to find her husband. Darren closed his eyes and let his forehead rest on the cold tile. The hot water felt good against his skin. It had been a long day and he needed to find a way to get back in Savannah’s good graces. He seemed to be letting her down a lot lately and he wasn’t sure how to fix things. He wanted to make her happy; it was all that was important all that he lived for. He didn’t realize that she had entered the bathroom until the cool air hit his back as she joined him in the shower. Startled from his thoughts, he turned to face her. Darren watched as she grabbed the sponge and the body wash. “Savannah, what…?” She silenced him before he could finish his question with a passionate kiss on his lips. Then she poured the liquid on the sponge and returned the bottle to the ledge where it had been earlier. “Turn around.” “I-I…” “Shh…” So obediently, he turned to face the wall. “I’m sorry I disappointed you, Baby.” He felt the sponge slowly rub against his back. “No, I was wrong for getting upset. I know that isn’t who you really are. I need […]

Will You Marry Me? Chapter 9

“Penelope!” “H-Hi…Fran, Dave…Spencer…” “Where’s Derek?” Fran asked. “He’s… “I’m right here, Ma.” Fran looked up and past Penelope watching her son walk up the long driveway. “You’re late!” “I think maybe the rest of us should wait inside and let Derek and Fran talk.” Dave suggested. “No, stay right where you are, we might need witnesses.” Derek ordered. Fran stood with her hands on her hips watching her son approach stopping next to his wife. Both never took their eyes off of each other. The fact that her son’s arm was in a full cast and a sling had no affect on the woman who’d taken a full week out of her life to plan the most amazing wedding the world had ever known. Everyone stood holding their breaths waiting for the showdown to begin. Penelope instinctively grabbed Derek’s hand and squeezed it in an effort to calm him down. “We may need more than witnesses! Fran began. “We may need law enforcement!” “Bella…” Dave pulled his wife against him. “You two come in it’s almost time.” “Time for what?” Derek asked shooting a puzzled glance at Penelope.” “Your wedding!” And with that Fran turned and headed inside. Dumbfounded, Derek looked to the others for answers. Shrugging their shoulders they cowardly followed Fran inside. “Wedding?” Derek and Penelope said in unison. The house was beautiful. Exotic floral arrangements lined the walls creating a lush colorful path that lead toward the back of the house and out onto the patio and […]

Will You Marry Me? Chapter 8

Home of Derek and Penelope Morgan – Evening Penelope had just settled next to her husband on the couch. They’d decided to make tonight, Movie Night to get their minds off of the continued goings on with their family and friends. She could tell Derek wasn’t dealing with the situation very well despite his denial and insistence that he was just fine and didn’t care if any of them spoke to them again. It was a lie, all a lie but she didn’t push him to admit his true feelings. She handed Derek the remote and just as he pushed, ‘play,’ her phone rang. Pulling away from him she grabbed her phone from her pocket. They both knew that ringtone all too well. “We have a case…they want to me to go with them…” She stopped as she watched him struggle to get up. “Where are you going?” “What, didn’t you say we have a case?” “Yes, ‘we’ have a case as in, everybody-on-the-team-except-you, have a case!” “Oh, so now you’re on their side?” “Baby Boy, may I remind you that you are on medical leave for the next six weeks?” “Are you serious? I can at least go into the office…” “NO! You my handsome hunk of chocolate cannot go into the office until you are cleared by your doctor!” “But…” “No but’s.” She stood and placed her body directly in front of him. “I almost lost you. When I think about what could have happened…” He saw the […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 26

Rossi spotted her among the crowd of travelers. Even from his distance he saw the fatigue and worry on her. She carried it in her shoulders as she drug her luggage behind her. Like the rest of them sleep would be delayed for her as well. She managed a slight smile at the sight of his hand raised and waving in the air. Emily welcomed his strong arms as he pulled her into him. They both seemed in need of the contact between friends who were more like family. They stayed in that place longer than they would have had circumstances been different. Then pulling away from each other they saw the sadness and the mess that their decisions had caused swimming wildly and shamefully in their eyes. “Welcome home, Emily.” “Thanks, I wish I could say that I’m happy to be back…not like this…not like this.” “Let’s get you to your apartment…” “No, I want to see Derek.” “It’s late you must be exhausted.” “Please Dave, I need to see him.” He looked into her eyes for what she was not telling him. “Okay. We’ll go see Derek.” The two waded through the crowd and out into the chilly night air. Dave headed toward his car placing her luggage in the trunk. She stood watching him as he closed the trunk not quite ready to face what lied ahead. “Are you sure you don’t want to wait?” “I’m sure.” Emily turned and hopped into the car as Dave hurried […]

Will You Marry Me? Chapter 7

Potomac General Hospital – Evening He knew she was there even before he opened his eyes. Her thoughts had taken her so far away that she hadn’t realized that he was awake and looking at her wondering where she had gone. “Baby Girl.” Startled she looked up and she saw the worry in his eyes. “Hey, hey…don’t even…I’m fine…” “Baby, I know what you did and I know you’re not fine.” “Well, he had it coming.” Derek moaned slightly. It had been several hours since his last pain medication. She noticed and quickly jumped to her feet. “I’ll get the nurse.” “Baby…” “No, I know you’re in pain, it’s written all over your face. I‘ll be right back.” “We need to…” “Derek, honestly I’ll be right…” “Don’t. You. Move!” She froze. “Park it. We need to talk, right now.” Penelope turned and slowly took her seat next to his bed. She knew what was coming. “What in the world did you think you were doing coming there alone and with a gun? My gun!” “A gun you bought for me!” “A gun you refused to carry!” “Kevin was going to kill you and I couldn’t let that happen!” “Penelope!” He took a deep breath before continuing. “I love you with everything that is in me but right now, I am so mad at you for putting yourself in danger! What would I do if something happened to you?” “And what would I do if something happened to you?” She countered […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 25

Tinsley smiled down at the woman. He could tell that she had been crying. He almost felt sorry for her…almost. He had a job to do and emotions only got in the way. “Mrs. Morgan, how are you feeling?” “I’ve been better.” “Yes, understood.” Penelope watched the man who was a stranger to her. She’d seen him more in the last twelve hours than she had in her entire time working for the bureau. He was more of a phantom than a real live breathing person. Only the elite and department heads ever saw the man who had run the FBI for the last fifteen years. “So, I don’t want to intrude I just wanted to come by and…” The noise of the door opening stopped him. Both he and Penelope watched as Fran came in carrying two large Styrofoam cups. Fran entered cautiously examining the stranger then smoothly taking a position next to Penelope. “Fran this is Director Tinsley with the FBI.” Both smiled while Fran, without taking her eyes off of the man handed Penelope one of the cups. “Director.” Fran nodded. “Ma’am, I uh, was just telling Mrs. Morgan that I wanted to stop by to see how she was doing and to offer my condolences.” “Thank you…” “Agent Morgan, my husband is…” “Was…was my son.” Fran interrupted. Fran grabbed Pen’s hand and squeezed it lightly. “Oh, I’m sorry. Then I guess my condolences go out to you as well, ma’am.” “Mrs. Rossi, please call me Mrs. […]

Running To You Chapter 3

She was gone. That fact hit him square in the gut as his defeated body hit the sofa. He was too late and she’d given up and left town believing that he didn’t love her. He couldn’t accept that, he’d hurt her and humiliated her with his silence. Then it came to him as he hopped to his feet nearly running toward the door. Reid! He would know something. The entire team was like family but he, Penelope and Reid shared an even closer bond. JJ was her girl but he’d just left her house before seeing his mom and with the tongue-lashing she’d given him he knew she’d alert him if something were awry. So, jumping into his truck he headed toward his friend’s apartment. Derek was relieved to see Spencer’s car in his parking slot and he pulled in next to him. Taking the steps instead of waiting for the elevator he arrived at his friend’s door out of breath. He knocked twice before Reid slowly and cautiously opened the door a crack and peering out into the hallway. “Morgan?” “Hey Pretty Boy…” “I’m sorry…did we have plans?” “No. Can I come in?” “Well, I was just…” The odd behavior did not go unnoticed but Morgan would deal with that later, clearly he was hiding something. Maybe Penelope was there; he could only hope. So pushing the door open he stepped inside brushing past Reid without waiting for an invitation. “Gee, most people wait to be invited in…never […]

Running To You Chapter 1

“I love you!” “I love you, too.” “No, I love you…I’m in love with you!” He looked into her glassy eyes speechless. She looked back waiting for his response but he simply stood in the middle of the floor with his mouth open in shock. “Baby Girl, I think I better take you home you’ve had one too many shots and…” “No, I’m not ready to go home…did you hear what I just said?” “Yeah, I heard you and… “And what?” “And I think you’re going to hate yourself in the morning.” “No…I won’t…” She slurred. They’d spent the last twenty minutes dancing and holding each other ignoring the world. He’d imagined holding her like this so many times but he had never been successful in getting her to dance with him until tonight. Now she was drunk off her ass and confessing feelings for him and he didn’t know what to say. He wrapped his arm tightly around her waist and pulled her close against his body. He could feel everyone’s eyes on them and he needed to get her out of there. He loved her, of course he loved her; he’d even told her as much but it had not changed anything between them. He was still her best friend and she had ended up in the arms of Kevin Lynch less than two hours later. Morgan couldn’t remember a time when he wasn’t in love with Penelope Garcia…he wondered what she would say in the morning. Home […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 22

Fran knew something was wrong the moment he stepped through the door. His face, his eyes…he’d been crying. She took a step back away from him as he approached shaking her head, no. She didn’t want to hear what she already knew in her heart…the thing she’d feared everyday since Derek had decided to follow his father into law enforcement. Then he began to shake his head too as he quickly pulled her into his arms and cried. BAU Headquarters – Hotch’s Office – Something was off. Maybe she was in denial but her mind would not allow her to believe that Derek was dead. She wasn’t stupid, it was always a possibility that he’d be killed and god knew he’d taken his share of crazy chances all in the line of duty. Penelope had long ago lost count of the scars and bruises and broken bones but something wasn’t quite right. There were no goodbyes and no last words or touches. She had been pulled out of the restroom so fast and his body had been concealed in the black body bag and wheeled away…this wasn’t how her day was supposed to begin not today…not now. “I want to see him.” She knew it was Hotch even though she hadn’t turned to confirm his presence. Closing the door behind him he slowly took the seat on the couch next to her. He felt as if the weight of the world were on his shoulders and he swore to himself […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 9

New York – Morning – Savannah was excited about being back in the city. It had been almost five years since she’d visited New York and she’d fallen instantly in love with the life and movement and culture that seemed to cover every square inch. She’d suggested spending a quiet weekend here with Derek once but he insisted that his job wouldn’t allow the time away. She brushed the thought from her mind vowing to stay positive and to make the next two days unforgettable for both of them. FBI Headquarters – Morgan found the offices as he had left them the night before, empty. He’d gotten up while it was still dark and showered and dressed. Normally, he would be home in bed savoring the last few moments of precious time cuddled with his wife and anticipating the pitter-patter of little feet entering and breaking the silence in the room. Not now; now he dreaded mornings and the silence was like an anvil on his chest making it hard to breathe. He needed his family back. Nothing worked without Penelope and Saraya by his side. Now was not the time to dwell on the things he could not change. The matter of five dead people, two of them federal agents was his focus. He couldn’t afford to slip up and get careless. His instincts not to trust where on high alert and he hated having to assume that the very people he worked side by side with were potential […]
