Soul Purpose Chapter 13

New York – Apartment of Derek Morgan – Morning – Penelope pulled her sore body from the bed. She was happy and it had been a long time since she’d awakened feeling like the world couldn’t harm her. She wanted to shout and to tell someone that for once it seemed that she had won. She pulled her phone from her purse and just before heading toward the kitchen she peered into her daughter’s room where she still lay sleeping. “Hey Garcie! How’s it going?” “Perfect my blonde bombshell, just perfect!” “So, details, details…” “Well, he was happy to see his daughter…” “And?” “I cooked an amazing dinner…” “Come on you’re killing me! You did tell him about Savannah’s little visit didn’t you?” “I did, I did.” “GARCIA!!!” “Okay, I’m sorry.” She chuckled. “He was heated! I had to really work hard to calm him down.” They were both spent…gloriously so and while still trying to catch his breath he placed her feet back on the wet shower floor. Kissing her one more time while reaching around her to turn off the water he whispered in her ear that the night was not over. Penelope smiled as he took her hand and led her dripping wet to the bed. “Aren’t we going to dry off, Handsome?” Without answering her he returned to the bathroom and after a few seconds returned with two large bath towels. Gently pushing her down flat on the bed, he wrapped one towel around his waist […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 7

The morning briefing had gone well and for the most part Morgan was impressed with the agents now reporting to him. This was definitely a change of pace and he wasn’t sure if he’d ever get used to running this office. The politics and the bureaucratic red tape would keep him trapped inside instead of in the field and he knew that would drive him crazy. The view from his glass walls made him homesick. He desperately wanted to talk to Penelope but he wasn’t sure if she wanted to talk to him. Pulling his phone from his pocket he began absentmindedly twirling it between his fingers. Just as he was about to press one on speed dial the director walked into his office. “How are you settling in?” Derek pocketed his phone and stood. Director Tinsley waved him off and took the seat in front of his desk. “Please, please no need for formality.” Derek took his seat. “So what do you think of our little operation here?” “It’s quite impressive, Sir. Thank you for making the trip from DC to meet me.” “It’s the least I could do after all we’ve been trying to snag you for years now.” “I love Quantico, Sir. It’s home.” “I totally understand. Speaking of which, how does your family like New York?” Derek knew the man was aware of his marital circumstances but he played along. “My wife and I are separated right now…” “Ah, I’m sorry to hear that but hey, […]

Will You Marry Me? Chapter 2

Derek hated the dark. He knew it was because the dark reminded him that he was defenseless and the control he so desperately needed no longer existed. It was cold the temperature had continually dropped over the last few hours and he assumed that it was now late evening. His stomach growled and his head ached from being hit earlier, he had to find a way out. Then his mind went to Penelope by now she would know something had happened to him and she’d be worried out of her mind. Worse than being taken and held in this hellhole, the thought of her afraid for him and imagining all sorts of things about what had happened to him made his situation unbearable. Kevin was eager to welcome his new guest he’d never felt so empowered and vindicated in his life. The fact that none of them had seen it coming made him smile. Being a disheveled, geek had its advantages after all he snickered. Now it was time to have some fun. Even he noticed the pep in his step and the two large men following behind reminded him that he was the boss. He’d never been the boss before even in his relationship with Penelope he was far from the boss. The blonde beauty called all the shots even in the bedroom he followed her lead like a lovesick puppy. Things were about to change. BAU Headquarters – Evening – “The locals have the area locked down tight. […]

The Christmas Miracle Chapter 1

“He’s got to.” “What? No! He can’t!” “He has to. If he doesn’t Ma will have his head!” Penelope knew her sister-in-law was right. Derek had been dodging this for months now and both she and her stubborn husband had run out of excuses. “Sarah, tell me how I’m supposed to look my delicious, gorgeous hunk of a husband in the eye and tell him he has to go to church…of all places wearing a red velour suit trimmed in white faux fur, shouting ho-ho-ho at the top of his lungs?” The woman was overcome with a vision of her brother dressed as Santa and she broke into hysterics. Penelope saw nothing funny but she couldn’t help joining Sarah as they both doubled over with tears streaming down their faces. “You tell him!” Penelope looked up pleading into Sarah’s face as she struggled to catch her breath. “No way, Sister…you tell him…after all he won’t try to kill you…he sleeps with you and you’re caring his child…so no…you tell him.” Grabbing her purse, scarf and coat, Sarah cowardly, still laughing…deep in her gut laughing and bolted toward the door of her brother’s brand new, pristinely appointed home. Penelope holding onto the banister with dear life still recovering from her own fit of laughter watched her dear sweet sister-in-love bail on her. “COWARD!” BAU Headquarters – “Come on, Morgan what’s the big deal? It’s only once a year!” “There’s no way in hell, Derek Morgan is going to dress up in […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 6

Derek had beaten the sun up. He couldn’t sleep so he’d found himself sitting in the dark living room of his apartment working on his second cup of coffee. He wasn’t ready for the day, not by a long shot and the fact that he hadn’t slept well, made him feel even worse. He was glad Dave had shown up and glad that he’d decided to sleep over. The emptiness of the apartment had made him regret the last several weeks. He should have given Penelope what she wanted. He wished he hadn’t been so stubborn, insisting on his male pride over his wife and child. He ran each and every argument over and over in his mind and saw the hurt in his wife’s eyes and heard his daughter’s cries as the adult voices grew louder and louder. He prayed he could somehow get her to forgive him and take him back. “Couldn’t sleep, eh?” Derek looked up to see Dave enter the room. He’d helped himself to the coffee and Derek didn’t mind. “Nah. I’ve got to report to work in a couple of hours and I’m exhausted.” Dave sat in the chair across from the couch and stared intently at his stepson. “I don’t want this, Dave. I never thought I’d lose her. Not like this. Not over a case.” “The truth?” “Of course.” “You couldn’t have changed a thing.” “What?” “Penelope loves you. In spite of everything that has happened she still loves you.” “But it […]

Internal Affairs Chapter 18

Kevin was conflicted. On one hand Derek Morgan’s death would solve so many problems for him. He was the only witness to his crime, the only person who actually saw him during his kidnapping. On the other hand, he’d never been an evil person, never even thought of killing anyone including Morgan. Somehow he’d gotten caught up in Savannah’s insanity. The case against him was ironclad and he knew it. Penelope would never forgive him and no matter what he said his chances with her were history. He peered through the small window while the guard fished the keys from his pocket and unlocked the door. He didn’t recognize the well-dressed brunette at the table and he had no idea who would have hired her on his behalf. “I’ll be right outside the door. Let me know when you’re finished.” Kevin nodded and stepped into the room. The door slammed shut and the heavy lock slid into place. The woman slowly looked up as he sat across from her. “Kevin Lynch.” “Y-Yes.” “My name is Amanda Portlock and I’ve been retained as your attorney.” “I assumed I’d have a public defender. I can’t afford an attorney.” “No worries my fee has already been taken care of.” “By who?” “Let’s just say, a very interested benefactor.” Kevin adjusted his glasses, not sure if he should question her further. He watched as she pulled a file from her very expensive briefcase. “Now tell me what happened. How did you get mixed up […]

When Truth Comes Knocking Chapter 20

Home of Derek Morgan – Morning – He hadn’t slept. He couldn’t. The thought of being accused of playing a part in the death of thirteen boys was unsettling. How would he defend himself against such charges? One could make a strong case against him with so many victims who’d come after him. He’d never imagined that there could be others like him; young boys terrorized, humiliated and shamed by Carl Buford. Derek had believed the older man’s assessment that he’d brought it on himself. Carl would tell him each time they were together that Derek wanted what was happening and that he should feel proud to be chosen by him. Thinking about it now suddenly made him sick to his stomach. Penelope was exhausted. Neither one of them had slept with Derek battling his demons well into the early morning. She turned over watching as he jumped from the bed and rushed to the bathroom. The clock on the nightstand blinked seven a.m. and her pursuit of sleep would have to wait until later. So, she pulled herself from the warm bed and made her way to the kitchen. She started the coffee going and began busying herself making breakfast for the two of them. She heard the shower running and she knew it wouldn’t be long before he rounded the corner. Her cell rang and she breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of her friend’s name flashing on the screen. “JJ! Good morning.” “Hey, is everything […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 5

Jackie’s Bar & Grill – New York – Evening – “So how are you holding up, Kid?” Derek kept his eyes on the half-empty glass in front of him. He wasn’t sure how to answer that question since he hadn’t thought much about anything or anyone except Penelope and Saraya. “I’m not sure how I got here, Dave. I can’t help but think that I’ve lost everything I thought was important to me.” “Give it time. Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to work out.” “But what if that means that Penelope and I weren’t meant to be together after all? I don’t think I can accept that, Dave.” “Listen, if there’s one thing I know for sure is that you two are meant to be together. You two just got lost that’s all.” “She wanted me to choose. She gave me an ultimatum. I don’t do ultimatums, Rossi.” “You both are stubborn; too stubborn for your own good. If you two love each other you’re going to have to let go of your pride and meet each other in the middle. That’s what marriage is all about.” Morgan looked up finally at his stepfather as if he were seeing him for the first time. “From a man that’s been married five times.” He chuckled. “Four.” “What?” “Four times. I’ve only been married four times. Your mother is number four.” “And she better be the last, old man.” The two laughed and drained their glasses. Dave checked his […]

When Truth Comes Knocking Chapter 19

The drive back to Quantico was uneventful. Garcia had given Derek the keys to Esther and so he did what he’d sworn in the past he’d never do…drive a bright orange Cadillac with the top down alone. It was chilly but he needed the crisp bite of the air against his skin to keep him alert. He hadn’t slept well the night before and he was exhausted. Derek dreaded being alone but his thoughts and guilt were more than willing to keep him company. He pulled into his driveway and turned off the engine. His body was sore and stiff from the drive and now he regretted not taking his pain medication before making the drive from Baltimore. Grabbing his go bag from the back seat he headed toward the front door. Just as he put the key in the lock and turned the knob he realized he had company. Morgan quickly turned to face his visitor. The man who looked not much older than James walked toward him stopping just short of the steps. Morgan noticed the brown envelope in his hand. “Derek Morgan?” “That’s me.” The man handed the envelope to Derek. “You’ve been served.” Reluctantly, he took the envelope from the man’s hand and before Morgan could react, the young man disappeared quickly. Stepping inside and closing the door he examined the envelope. It was official looking peaking his curiosity. He had a bad feeling about what he was about to see as he opened the envelope […]

When Truth Comes Knocking Chapter 18

Doubletree Hotel – Morning – Penelope panicked when she woke up in bed alone. Her hand immediately went to his side of the bed. It was cold. Jumping up she looked around the room there was no noise coming from the bathroom, no sign of Derek. Her mind was flooded with a dozen doom and gloom scenarios. Her imagination was vivid with him being hurt or worse. His phone was still on the nightstand…he never left his phone. Just as she was about to call the others she heard the door open. The smell of coffee and fresh pastries preceded him as he walked in. He realized the magnitude of his leaving by the wide-eyed look of utter terror on her face. On any other day, him running out for breakfast would have been no big thing, but not now. Suddenly he regretted this simple act. “Damn it, Derek!” “What? I’m sorry I…” “I thought something had happened…that you’d done…” “He quickly set the drink carrier and bag down and rushed toward her pulling her in a sturdy embrace. “Whoa, whoa, Baby, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you worry. I just wanted to get us something to eat. I wasn’t thinking.” She suddenly lost her resolve and began crying against his chest. He held her without saying a word. She’d worried about him for weeks now and she’d reached her limit. “I’m sorry. I should have told you where I was going. Forgive me?” She shook her head, […]
