The Fall Chapter 19

Atlanta General Hospital – “Wake up, Hamilton, since when have you been a sound sleeper?” “Evelyn, darling. He replied still with his eyes closed. “The least you can do is open your eyes.” Hamilton complied opening his eyes and giving her one of his toothy smiles. The Calvary, he thought as he watched her come closer. She’d always been a desperate pushover, clueless to his scandalous dealings and extramarital trysts. She’d take care of everything, just like always. “You came, how sweet of you.” “Did you think I wouldn’t?” “How did you find out?” “Don’t trouble yourself with the how’s and why’s of my visit, husband.” “Listen, I’m in a little bit of a jam here. Call Harry and have him fly down and take care of this! They’ll be discharging me in a day or so and I really don’t want to spend a moment in…” “Really, Hamilton? When this gets out, Harry will be far too busy protecting my good name to worry about you. Besides, I’m just as much a victim here as the poor Agent Morgan!” “But…” “I won’t allow your mess to sully my name and reputation. My attorney will be building a case for the poor grieving wife…” “Grieving?”   “Yes, grieving.” Then Hamilton saw the broad, confident smile spread across his wife’s face. He’d only seen it a few times over the years and it always meant trouble for him. No one knew his wife like he did. She wasn’t the sweet, innocent […]

Only Reid Chapter 4

BAU Headquarters – Jordan made the short ride up the elevator to the sixth floor home of the Behavioral Analysis Unit. It had been a while since she’d seen the team and neither of them had made a big effort to keep in touch. Her time working cases with them had confirmed for her that Counter Terrorism was where she belonged. She was excited about seeing them especially JJ whom she’d temporarily replaced while the beautiful blonde was on maternity leave. She couldn’t wait to be pregnant with Derek’s baby and walking the halls of the FBI flaunting her baby bump. She loved how he was playing hard to get but Jordan Todd always go what she wanted, always and Derek Morgan would be no exception. JJ’s back was turned to the door she was busy gathering files and balancing them in her arms along with her coffee mug with little success. She was frazzled worried about Reid who still hadn’t been able to help them find Morgan. She tried to push back the doubt that kept forcing it’s way to the front of her other thoughts about him, where he was and how he was doing. Jordan’s knock startled JJ causing her to drop the files spilling their contents onto her office floor. “Oh! I’m sorry I didn’t meant to startle you.” “Jordan? Um…hi! No that’s okay, I’m just out of it this… what are you doing here?” “I just came by to say, hi. I missed you guys […]

Only Reid Chapter 3

Jordan was quite proud of herself; her plan had gone off without a hitch. Derek and his young friend didn’t see it coming. “Some profilers,” she humorously thought to herself as she watched his glare. “If looks could kill, I’d be stone-cold dead.” She thought again to herself. She motioned for the men to pull him to his feet as she moved to a circular dining table nearby. It was formally set for two, cloth napkins, crystal and china and candles. The man who had done the talking earlier pulled out her seat. As she sat the other two pulled Morgan to the chair across from her and pushed him into the chair. “Join me in a drink?” At her words, the man began to open the champagne bottle that sat chilling next to the table. “Stop the bullshit, Jordan! What did you do to Reid?” “I almost forgot how relentless you are, Derek.” Morgan moved to stand but was quickly jerked back against the seat and held in place by the two men who placed heavy hands on his shoulders. “So you can imagine my surprise when I didn’t hear from you.” She continued. The man placed a glass of champagne in front of her and one in front of Morgan who was fuming as he struggled against the hands pressing him against the chair. “I don’t know what happened to Dr. Reid and frankly, I don’t care. My assistants were instructed to bring you and only you…here…to me…so, […]

Only Reid Chapter 1

Potomac General Hospital – Evening Hotch, Rossi and JJ burst through the door weaving and dodging the sea of slow moving, aching and sick patients waiting to be seen. The news had come after a much-needed night out with the team relaxing, acting silly and drinking way too much. Their last case in Dallas had drained them all and pushed each one of them to the brink of their tolerance levels. Now they were rushing to see about one of their own who had become a victim of a sadistic attack. Their evening of gathering together to forget had suddenly crashed and burned dragging them to the realization that there was no place to run from evil and no one even them were immune from its touch. Hotch rushed to the nearest nurses’ desk and pushed his way to the front not carrying how inconsiderate it may have seemed. “Spencer Reid!” The over worked frazzled clerk looked up and her face softened at the FBI credentials now within inches of her nose. “He’s in Exam room one…” Without as much as a, ‘thank you,’ the three rushed down the hall leaving the clerk in mid sentence. “Sir! You can’t go in there!” She yelled. Just as Hotch placed his hand on the door a nurse came out and blocked his way preventing them from going any further. “We need to see …” “He’s being examined by the doctor and as soon as he is finished he’ll be out to see […]

Into Thin Air Chapter 9

Wayne’s Market – Hotch rushed through the door with Rossi, JJ and Reid close behind. With the exception of the dozen detectives and crime scene investigators there were very few signs that something out of the ordinary had occurred in the small market. Hotch spotted Detective Chris Perkins near the register talking to a man in his mid-forties, obviously upset and talking animatedly with his hands flailing in the air. They’d worked with the detective before so persuading him to allow them to assist hopefully would be easy. The body of the young woman lay in a black body bag behind the counter no doubt the spot where she’d been brutally raped and killed. Reid surveyed the room with his eyes as they approached the detective and the emotional man. He wanted an opportunity to investigate closer but until they got the go ahead he would have to rely on his eidetic memory to recall everything later. “Agent.” Perkins extended his hand to Hotch. Hotch shook his hand as the other man ran his hands through his hair avoiding the newcomer’s questioning eyes. “Your technical analyst notified me that you all were on your way. Sorry to hear about your agent.” “Thanks. I know we haven’t been invited in but if you would allow us to join in…” “You don’t have to ask, of course we could use all the help we can get. Nothing like this has ever happened out here and the folks are already pretty spooked.” “We’ll […]

When Life Demands Perfection Chapter 5

Morgan jumped when he heard the door open. It had been a while since Miranda had left him and he hadn’t moved from his spot on the floor. He was glad that he hadn’t been strapped back into the chair; the zip ties had cut deeply into his wrists during his struggle to get free. He wondered what Chester’s next move would be. Turning his head slowly toward the door he saw the little boys rush to him grabbing him around his neck and holding on for dear life. His heart leapt to see them in one piece unharmed. He wrapped his arms around them and closed his eyes grateful that it wasn’t a dream. “You have five minutes!” Chester growled. The door slammed shut and the lock shifted in place. He pulled the two away from his body and examined them closely. Tears and fear in their wide eyes broke his heart but he was grateful to the beast who’d brought them here for a moment of compassion. He hugged them close to his body again before remembering that time was passing.   He sat the boys on either side of him. “Are you guys okay?” The two shook their heads, yes. “Uncle Derek, why did the bad men and lady bring us here?” “I don’t know, Jack.” He began. “But, I’m going to get you home to your parents, okay?” “I scared…” Henry said softly his lip trembling. “I know you are, little man.” “What happened to your face? […]

When Life Demands Perfection Chapter 1

“Come on! They’ll be fine. It will be a boys’ night in. Besides, you guys need a break; when was the last time you all had a grown folks night out?” Morgan asked. Hotch and JJ looked at each other waiting for the other to approve the idea. It had been a while since either of them had been out on a real date with their partners; with their lives the little time off they managed to get was spent with their children guiltily making up for lost time. The offer was tempting and the smiles on Hotch and JJ’s faces let Morgan know that they were seriously considering his offer. “Are you sure about this, Derek?” JJ asked. “Of course. It will be fun. Besides, I don’t have plans tonight.” “What about Savannah?” “She’s on call this weekend. So I’m on my own.” He didn’t have the heart to tell them that he and Savannah had broken up a month ago. “Just as long as you don’t let Jack talk you into eating too much candy. I saw all of that leftover Halloween stuff in your office.” “Not to worry, man I’ve got it all under control. We’ll have a blast. Now stop worrying.” “Thanks Morgan, Beth will really appreciate a quiet night out.” “Yeah so will, Will. We owe you big time.” “No you don’t. I love spending time with my nephews. Now get out of my office so I can finish up before the Jack and Henry […]

Valentine’s Daze Chapter 9

BAU Headquarters – Early Morning – Hotch stood next to the large board as each team member slowly filed in the room. It was early before the sun had risen and none of them seemed happy about being dragged from bed to return to work. All of them were surprised to see Jordan Todd standing next to the large board opposite of their boss. Garcia had a sinking feeling when she noticed the nervous brunette avoiding eye contact as they each took their seat around the table. “Let’s get started.” Hotch began. “This must be a bad one to drag us back at such an ungodly hour.” Rossi started. “As you know Morgan has been assigned to Counter Terrorism for the past few days…” “Oh my god, please don’t tell me something’s happened to him!” Garcia interrupted. “Agent Todd you can take it from here.” Hotch said dryly. Garcia shot deadly piercing darts at her nemesis as Jordan looked nervously at the team. “Agent Morgan was helping us bring down a woman by the name of Zelda Cromley. She’s believed to be the head of a very deadly terror cell that specializes in murder-for-hire.” “Why was Morgan chosen for this when you must have dozens of other agents?” JJ asked puzzled. “Thirty-seven agents to be exact.” Reid added. “Let’s worry about that later. Jordan, continue please.” Hotch ordered. “Morgan missed his last check-in last night and I haven’t been able to reach him on his cell and he isn’t at […]

Valentine’s Daze Chapter 8

Morgan checked his watch and headed out of his apartment out of the building and down the steps to the street. It was chilly but the sky was clear and he could feel his senses on high alert; this is how he always felt on cases that could be so unpredictable like this one. Agent Cunningham and Jordan’s visits earlier had caught him off guard and he hoped they didn’t jeopardize the case or his life. Just as Morgan neared the corner where his rental was parked a long black limousine pulled up and stopped next to him. The back window lowered and a well-dressed dark-skinned man poked his head out slightly and confidently smiled at him. He recognized him from Z’s; he seemed to be lurking in the shadows and intently watching the happenings around Zelda Cromley. “Greg Mathers?” “Yeah, who wants to know?” “My name is Elliot Kirby, I’m Madame Cromley’s personal assistant. She thought you made need a ride tonight.” “No I have my own car, but thanks anyway.” “Please, I’m afraid I’ll have to insist.” Morgan’s eyes were drawn to the rather large handgun pointing at him and without another word headed toward the limo. The door opened and the man slid over to make room for him to get in. “Do you really need that?” He said nodding toward the gun pointed at him. “Do I?” “Not as far as I’m concerned you don’t.” The driver pulled away from the curb and sped away while […]

If I Come Tonight Chapter 7

“You like this place don’t you, Penelope?” Tara looked around the familiar coffee shop as the two grabbed the last booth near the entrance. “Yeah I guess I do.” Penelope chuckled. “Although if I had any sense, this should be the last place I would want to be.” “What do you mean?” “I met a guy here…a drop dead gorgeous guy here.” “Really? That doesn’t sound so bad.” “You’d think but that said drop dead gorgeous guy shot me!” “What?” “I almost died…” Tara watched as Penelope’s mood suddenly changed but only for a short moment then she was back to her bubbly self and focused on her. “So, Tara, I never got your last name?” “What?” “Your last name?” “Oh, Carlton. Tara Carlton.” Tara fidgeted slightly; she was having second thoughts about the name she’d chosen. Penelope was pretty smart and she wasn’t ready for her new “friend” to discover her true identity just yet. “Tara Carlton from Chicago, okay!” Penelope removed her coat and folded it over the back of the booth while Tara watched her intently. The younger woman then reached into her purse for her wallet. The least she could do was buy the woman a cup of coffee. After all, she was about to shoot her dead like the drop dead gorgeous man had tried to do. “Shoot me once, shame on you! Shoot me twice…your dead!” Tara thought humorously to herself. “Oh no you don’t, young lady! It’s on me.” “No Penelope, you’ve been […]
