The Fall Chapter 21

Atlanta General – Derek’s Room – Derek lay quietly in bed while Penelope dozed in a chair next to his bed. She was beautiful and strong although he suspected that she didn’t consider herself strong…or beautiful. There were so many memories clawing themselves back to the forefront of his mind but there were so many more holes that still needed to be filled. Looking at her sleep, it was obvious why he’d fought so hard against Savannah, Marcos and Hamilton. She was worth it because without her living was not really living. “Hey, Handsome how long have you been awake?” She smiled up at him he seemed so far away as he stared back at her. “Hi, did I wake you?” “No, not at all. Are you okay?” “Yeah, I can’t sleep. So many things, pictures running through my mind.” He grimaced as he shifted to get comfortable. She noticed the light bead of sweat on his forehead. Penelope stood and placed her hand on his forehead. He was warm. Not good she thought. “Derek, can I ask you a question?” “Sure anything.” “You promise to tell me the truth?” “Of course.” “How are you feeling?” “What?” “Because you don’t look so good, you’re sweating and you’re warm, very warm.” “I’m fine.” “You promised.” “Okay, okay. I feel bad, really bad. I thought if I ignored it…” “Derek, listen to me we’re going to find out how to help you, please hang in there.” “I’m trying but…” He grimaced in […]

The Fall Chapter 19

Atlanta General Hospital – “Wake up, Hamilton, since when have you been a sound sleeper?” “Evelyn, darling. He replied still with his eyes closed. “The least you can do is open your eyes.” Hamilton complied opening his eyes and giving her one of his toothy smiles. The Calvary, he thought as he watched her come closer. She’d always been a desperate pushover, clueless to his scandalous dealings and extramarital trysts. She’d take care of everything, just like always. “You came, how sweet of you.” “Did you think I wouldn’t?” “How did you find out?” “Don’t trouble yourself with the how’s and why’s of my visit, husband.” “Listen, I’m in a little bit of a jam here. Call Harry and have him fly down and take care of this! They’ll be discharging me in a day or so and I really don’t want to spend a moment in…” “Really, Hamilton? When this gets out, Harry will be far too busy protecting my good name to worry about you. Besides, I’m just as much a victim here as the poor Agent Morgan!” “But…” “I won’t allow your mess to sully my name and reputation. My attorney will be building a case for the poor grieving wife…” “Grieving?”   “Yes, grieving.” Then Hamilton saw the broad, confident smile spread across his wife’s face. He’d only seen it a few times over the years and it always meant trouble for him. No one knew his wife like he did. She wasn’t the sweet, innocent […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 31

Avery alerted Emily as he watched Tinsley from the monitors. The man seemed anxious as he stood waiting for entrance into the building. Common sense would dictate to leave the man outside in the chilly D.C. air after all, he was a cold-blooded killer and his intentions were clear. He wanted to kill one of his patients and anyone who stood in his way. Tinsley was the Director of the FBI and he was one of a handful of people whose security clearance gave him access. So despite the feelings of doom, Avery made his way down the elevator toward the front of the building. He prayed that Dave and Emily were ready and knew what they were doing. This was their work not his and he didn’t want what they did for a living brought here into his world. But these were desperate times and his choice in the matter had been taken away. Avery couldn’t help but feel Emily had used his love for her to her advantage and he didn’t like it, not one bit. “Director Tinsley, Dr. Avery Peterson.” Avery stepped aside to let the man inside. “Where is he?” “Excuse me?” “Agent Morgan. Where is he?” “I’m sorry I…” “Listen to me, Doctor If you don’t want this place shut down you’ll tell me right now where my agent is!” “With all due respect, director, this place belongs to me and I don’t think you should be here. So, if you don’t mind…” “Doctor Peterson, […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 29

County Morgue – Tinsley walked hurriedly toward the late model Rolls that was parked across the street. Richard Lynch had made no effort to be inconspicuous as he sat behind the wheel impatiently tapping his index finger on the leather steering wheel. Quickly Tinsley jumped in on the passenger’s side and closed the door. “Why did you call me all the way downtown just to sit and wait on you to decide to show up?” “Not now, Lynch. Not now.” “Please don’t tell me that you’ve screwed up again.” “We need proof that Derek Morgan is dead, I mean really dead!” “Have you lost your mind, Tinsley? Of course he’s dead they carried him out of FBI Headquarters in a body bag for heaven’s sake!” “I’m not so sure. His wife was discharged from the hospital and instead of coming here to pay her respects, she headed to the BAU instead.” “Okay, maybe the happy couple wasn’t all that happy after all. My son told me that they were having problems.” “I’m telling you, no matter what was going on in that marriage, there’s no way in hell that Morgan’s wife would not do everything in her power to see her husband one last time.” Tinsley watched the smug confident look on Lynch’s face slowly melt away. “So, what’s your plan?” “I’m going to walk in and demand to see the body, that’s what I’m going to do!” “That’s the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard! If he’s still […]

Will You Marry Me? Chapter 9

“Penelope!” “H-Hi…Fran, Dave…Spencer…” “Where’s Derek?” Fran asked. “He’s… “I’m right here, Ma.” Fran looked up and past Penelope watching her son walk up the long driveway. “You’re late!” “I think maybe the rest of us should wait inside and let Derek and Fran talk.” Dave suggested. “No, stay right where you are, we might need witnesses.” Derek ordered. Fran stood with her hands on her hips watching her son approach stopping next to his wife. Both never took their eyes off of each other. The fact that her son’s arm was in a full cast and a sling had no affect on the woman who’d taken a full week out of her life to plan the most amazing wedding the world had ever known. Everyone stood holding their breaths waiting for the showdown to begin. Penelope instinctively grabbed Derek’s hand and squeezed it in an effort to calm him down. “We may need more than witnesses! Fran began. “We may need law enforcement!” “Bella…” Dave pulled his wife against him. “You two come in it’s almost time.” “Time for what?” Derek asked shooting a puzzled glance at Penelope.” “Your wedding!” And with that Fran turned and headed inside. Dumbfounded, Derek looked to the others for answers. Shrugging their shoulders they cowardly followed Fran inside. “Wedding?” Derek and Penelope said in unison. The house was beautiful. Exotic floral arrangements lined the walls creating a lush colorful path that lead toward the back of the house and out onto the patio and […]

Running To You Chapter 5

“Bet? What bet?” “Everyone else was far less optimistic in their estimate but not me! No sir, I knew it, I knew it! It was only a matter of time…” “Wait…a bet? Who else was in on this bet?” “Um let’s see…Dr. Reid, Dave…” “Figures!” “Ah…Hotch and…” “Not Hotch?” She nodded as she perused her memory. “JJ, Emily, Blake…” “Blake? She’s not even with the bureau anymore.” “Oh and Fran! Such a sweet mother you have there.” “Oh hell no, my mother was in on this, this…bet too?” “Yup! Won’t she be surprised! I tell you I thought she would be my closest competition but boy was she off!” Derek couldn’t believe his ears. His friends and family had taken bets on him and Penelope! How did they know, how could they? He didn’t even know. He carefully set his cup on the table and began pacing back and forth across the room much to Esperia’s amusement. “So now that you’ve admitted how you feel and traveled clear across the country, what are you going to do now?” Home of Dr. Spencer Reid – Evening – Reid had called for backup and now JJ had joined the two in the small cluttered apartment. Neither of them were having any luck with calming their friend down. “What am I going to do now? Derek’s in California and I’m here and…” “Well the first thing we need to do is call Derek and get him back home!” JJ offered. “He’s going to […]

Running to You Chapter 4

“Garcia, what are you doing here?” Reid asked again. “I couldn’t do it! I couldn’t leave!” Penelope pushed past Reid into the apartment as he stood there, mouth opened and in shock. “Call me crazy but…” “Garcia! Morgan…” “Derek’s my best friend…”she continued. “I’m not sure I’m ready to walk away from my best friend!” “But…” “I’m humiliated, embarrassed and I probably won’t be able to make eye contact with him for at least a year but…” “Garcia!” “I’ll blame it on the alcohol…yeah, the alcohol!” “Garcia!” She paced the apartment pulling books from his crammed shelves examining them as she talked then putting them back. She hadn’t heard a word he’d tried to get in edgewise. “OMG Reid, Derek must think I’m some sort of lovesick…scatter-brained…geek!” “No, I’m sure he doesn’t…” “I know someone like him could never love me…what was I thinking, really?” “He loves you.” Reid spoke calmly watching as she explored his apartment. “I mean, I do okay but I’m not the girl that men cross a crowded room for…” “Garcia…” “No, no it’s okay. I’m gorgeous, I’m smart…I know but I’m not what men…vain men and we know my Hot Stuff, he’s the vainest of the vain…” “GARCIA!” She stopped dead in her tracks shooting a shocked look toward her distraught friend across the room. “What’s wrong?” “Morgan’s gone!” “W-what?” “He’s gone!” It didn’t matter that he had on his earphones or that his eyes were closed and his seat was reclined, Morgan’s grumpy travel […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 25

Tinsley smiled down at the woman. He could tell that she had been crying. He almost felt sorry for her…almost. He had a job to do and emotions only got in the way. “Mrs. Morgan, how are you feeling?” “I’ve been better.” “Yes, understood.” Penelope watched the man who was a stranger to her. She’d seen him more in the last twelve hours than she had in her entire time working for the bureau. He was more of a phantom than a real live breathing person. Only the elite and department heads ever saw the man who had run the FBI for the last fifteen years. “So, I don’t want to intrude I just wanted to come by and…” The noise of the door opening stopped him. Both he and Penelope watched as Fran came in carrying two large Styrofoam cups. Fran entered cautiously examining the stranger then smoothly taking a position next to Penelope. “Fran this is Director Tinsley with the FBI.” Both smiled while Fran, without taking her eyes off of the man handed Penelope one of the cups. “Director.” Fran nodded. “Ma’am, I uh, was just telling Mrs. Morgan that I wanted to stop by to see how she was doing and to offer my condolences.” “Thank you…” “Agent Morgan, my husband is…” “Was…was my son.” Fran interrupted. Fran grabbed Pen’s hand and squeezed it lightly. “Oh, I’m sorry. Then I guess my condolences go out to you as well, ma’am.” “Mrs. Rossi, please call me Mrs. […]

Running To You Chapter 3

She was gone. That fact hit him square in the gut as his defeated body hit the sofa. He was too late and she’d given up and left town believing that he didn’t love her. He couldn’t accept that, he’d hurt her and humiliated her with his silence. Then it came to him as he hopped to his feet nearly running toward the door. Reid! He would know something. The entire team was like family but he, Penelope and Reid shared an even closer bond. JJ was her girl but he’d just left her house before seeing his mom and with the tongue-lashing she’d given him he knew she’d alert him if something were awry. So, jumping into his truck he headed toward his friend’s apartment. Derek was relieved to see Spencer’s car in his parking slot and he pulled in next to him. Taking the steps instead of waiting for the elevator he arrived at his friend’s door out of breath. He knocked twice before Reid slowly and cautiously opened the door a crack and peering out into the hallway. “Morgan?” “Hey Pretty Boy…” “I’m sorry…did we have plans?” “No. Can I come in?” “Well, I was just…” The odd behavior did not go unnoticed but Morgan would deal with that later, clearly he was hiding something. Maybe Penelope was there; he could only hope. So pushing the door open he stepped inside brushing past Reid without waiting for an invitation. “Gee, most people wait to be invited in…never […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 24

Potomac General Hospital – Fran sat alone next to Penelope’s bed. She’d cried all she was able to and now she just sat thinking about the past several hours. Her anger had morphed into a dull heaviness and she wondered if she’d overreacted. Her husband and the others led a treacherous and precarious life she knew that too well. It was just that she didn’t want to be touched by it so intimately. Both Dave and Derek knew how the death of her first husband had affected her; the pain and grief nearly destroyed her and her children. She didn’t understand why they would play such a cruel trick on her. She wondered if they thought about the damage a lie like this would cause. Looking at the sleeping woman in the bed, she answered her own question. The price had been too high even to save her son’s life. “Fran?” Penelope whispered weakly. “What happened?” Mustering a smile Fran looked into her daughter-in-law’s face. She looked so pale and lost. They needed to talk. “Hey Baby, how are you feeling?” “Tired…Derek?” Then as reality reminded her of their circumstance, “Oh…” “They still won’t tell me where he is.” “But, that’s not fair!” “Shhh…calm down…you need to take it easy…especially now, okay?” Penelope relaxed against the pillow. The look of guilt in her eyes told Fran everything she needed to know. “Does Derek know?” Penelope shook her head, no. “I didn’t know for sure until now.” “You came dangerously close […]
