Will You Marry Me? Chapter 9

“Penelope!” “H-Hi…Fran, Dave…Spencer…” “Where’s Derek?” Fran asked. “He’s… “I’m right here, Ma.” Fran looked up and past Penelope watching her son walk up the long driveway. “You’re late!” “I think maybe the rest of us should wait inside and let Derek and Fran talk.” Dave suggested. “No, stay right where you are, we might need witnesses.” Derek ordered. Fran stood with her hands on her hips watching her son approach stopping next to his wife. Both never took their eyes off of each other. The fact that her son’s arm was in a full cast and a sling had no affect on the woman who’d taken a full week out of her life to plan the most amazing wedding the world had ever known. Everyone stood holding their breaths waiting for the showdown to begin. Penelope instinctively grabbed Derek’s hand and squeezed it in an effort to calm him down. “We may need more than witnesses! Fran began. “We may need law enforcement!” “Bella…” Dave pulled his wife against him. “You two come in it’s almost time.” “Time for what?” Derek asked shooting a puzzled glance at Penelope.” “Your wedding!” And with that Fran turned and headed inside. Dumbfounded, Derek looked to the others for answers. Shrugging their shoulders they cowardly followed Fran inside. “Wedding?” Derek and Penelope said in unison. The house was beautiful. Exotic floral arrangements lined the walls creating a lush colorful path that lead toward the back of the house and out onto the patio and […]

Running To You Chapter 5

“Bet? What bet?” “Everyone else was far less optimistic in their estimate but not me! No sir, I knew it, I knew it! It was only a matter of time…” “Wait…a bet? Who else was in on this bet?” “Um let’s see…Dr. Reid, Dave…” “Figures!” “Ah…Hotch and…” “Not Hotch?” She nodded as she perused her memory. “JJ, Emily, Blake…” “Blake? She’s not even with the bureau anymore.” “Oh and Fran! Such a sweet mother you have there.” “Oh hell no, my mother was in on this, this…bet too?” “Yup! Won’t she be surprised! I tell you I thought she would be my closest competition but boy was she off!” Derek couldn’t believe his ears. His friends and family had taken bets on him and Penelope! How did they know, how could they? He didn’t even know. He carefully set his cup on the table and began pacing back and forth across the room much to Esperia’s amusement. “So now that you’ve admitted how you feel and traveled clear across the country, what are you going to do now?” Home of Dr. Spencer Reid – Evening – Reid had called for backup and now JJ had joined the two in the small cluttered apartment. Neither of them were having any luck with calming their friend down. “What am I going to do now? Derek’s in California and I’m here and…” “Well the first thing we need to do is call Derek and get him back home!” JJ offered. “He’s going to […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 26

Rossi spotted her among the crowd of travelers. Even from his distance he saw the fatigue and worry on her. She carried it in her shoulders as she drug her luggage behind her. Like the rest of them sleep would be delayed for her as well. She managed a slight smile at the sight of his hand raised and waving in the air. Emily welcomed his strong arms as he pulled her into him. They both seemed in need of the contact between friends who were more like family. They stayed in that place longer than they would have had circumstances been different. Then pulling away from each other they saw the sadness and the mess that their decisions had caused swimming wildly and shamefully in their eyes. “Welcome home, Emily.” “Thanks, I wish I could say that I’m happy to be back…not like this…not like this.” “Let’s get you to your apartment…” “No, I want to see Derek.” “It’s late you must be exhausted.” “Please Dave, I need to see him.” He looked into her eyes for what she was not telling him. “Okay. We’ll go see Derek.” The two waded through the crowd and out into the chilly night air. Dave headed toward his car placing her luggage in the trunk. She stood watching him as he closed the trunk not quite ready to face what lied ahead. “Are you sure you don’t want to wait?” “I’m sure.” Emily turned and hopped into the car as Dave hurried […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 25

Tinsley smiled down at the woman. He could tell that she had been crying. He almost felt sorry for her…almost. He had a job to do and emotions only got in the way. “Mrs. Morgan, how are you feeling?” “I’ve been better.” “Yes, understood.” Penelope watched the man who was a stranger to her. She’d seen him more in the last twelve hours than she had in her entire time working for the bureau. He was more of a phantom than a real live breathing person. Only the elite and department heads ever saw the man who had run the FBI for the last fifteen years. “So, I don’t want to intrude I just wanted to come by and…” The noise of the door opening stopped him. Both he and Penelope watched as Fran came in carrying two large Styrofoam cups. Fran entered cautiously examining the stranger then smoothly taking a position next to Penelope. “Fran this is Director Tinsley with the FBI.” Both smiled while Fran, without taking her eyes off of the man handed Penelope one of the cups. “Director.” Fran nodded. “Ma’am, I uh, was just telling Mrs. Morgan that I wanted to stop by to see how she was doing and to offer my condolences.” “Thank you…” “Agent Morgan, my husband is…” “Was…was my son.” Fran interrupted. Fran grabbed Pen’s hand and squeezed it lightly. “Oh, I’m sorry. Then I guess my condolences go out to you as well, ma’am.” “Mrs. Rossi, please call me Mrs. […]

Running To You Chapter 3

She was gone. That fact hit him square in the gut as his defeated body hit the sofa. He was too late and she’d given up and left town believing that he didn’t love her. He couldn’t accept that, he’d hurt her and humiliated her with his silence. Then it came to him as he hopped to his feet nearly running toward the door. Reid! He would know something. The entire team was like family but he, Penelope and Reid shared an even closer bond. JJ was her girl but he’d just left her house before seeing his mom and with the tongue-lashing she’d given him he knew she’d alert him if something were awry. So, jumping into his truck he headed toward his friend’s apartment. Derek was relieved to see Spencer’s car in his parking slot and he pulled in next to him. Taking the steps instead of waiting for the elevator he arrived at his friend’s door out of breath. He knocked twice before Reid slowly and cautiously opened the door a crack and peering out into the hallway. “Morgan?” “Hey Pretty Boy…” “I’m sorry…did we have plans?” “No. Can I come in?” “Well, I was just…” The odd behavior did not go unnoticed but Morgan would deal with that later, clearly he was hiding something. Maybe Penelope was there; he could only hope. So pushing the door open he stepped inside brushing past Reid without waiting for an invitation. “Gee, most people wait to be invited in…never […]

Running To You Chapter 2

Home of Dave and Fran Rossi – Fran knew that look and she knew her son. It was the same look he would get as a boy whenever he got in trouble at school and had to come home and face her wrath. The man standing before her stood waiting for her to chastise him like she did the little precocious teenager years ago. “You know don’t you, Ma.” “You bet I know!” Then stepping aside she let him in. “You’ve definitely made a mess of things this time.” “I know Ma, I know.” “Have you eaten?” “I’m not hungry.” “Nonsense. Come.” He followed her into the massive chef’s kitchen and took a seat at the island while she began preparing a snack for her only son. “I blew it! I really hurt her this time. She’s never going to forgive me.” “Do you love her?” Fran turned to face him as she pulled last night’s roast out of the fridge. “Ma…” “Ma, nothing! Do. You. Love her?” “Yes Ma, I love her.” Fran grabbed the bread and began making a sandwich. She shook her head at the man who’d survived incredible grief and danger. He was one of the smartest people she knew but when it came to his feelings and when it came to his Baby Girl he was a complete idiot. “I want her lock stock and barrel. She’s the entire package Ma…” “Then why are you telling me? She’s the one that needs to hear this, […]

Running To You Chapter 1

“I love you!” “I love you, too.” “No, I love you…I’m in love with you!” He looked into her glassy eyes speechless. She looked back waiting for his response but he simply stood in the middle of the floor with his mouth open in shock. “Baby Girl, I think I better take you home you’ve had one too many shots and…” “No, I’m not ready to go home…did you hear what I just said?” “Yeah, I heard you and… “And what?” “And I think you’re going to hate yourself in the morning.” “No…I won’t…” She slurred. They’d spent the last twenty minutes dancing and holding each other ignoring the world. He’d imagined holding her like this so many times but he had never been successful in getting her to dance with him until tonight. Now she was drunk off her ass and confessing feelings for him and he didn’t know what to say. He wrapped his arm tightly around her waist and pulled her close against his body. He could feel everyone’s eyes on them and he needed to get her out of there. He loved her, of course he loved her; he’d even told her as much but it had not changed anything between them. He was still her best friend and she had ended up in the arms of Kevin Lynch less than two hours later. Morgan couldn’t remember a time when he wasn’t in love with Penelope Garcia…he wondered what she would say in the morning. Home […]

Will You Marry Me? Chapter 5

Penelope slowly made her way down the hall careful not to be seen by the others. She stopped in front of Derek’s office placing her hand lightly on the gold nameplate in front of her. With her other hand she turned the knob, pushed the door open and quickly stepped inside. She closed her eyes as she inhaled his cologne and imagined him behind his desk and looking up with a smile to greet her. She imagined the wheels turning in his head as no doubt he would be thinking about all the things he wanted to do to her and had done to her in that office. Then she imagined smiling back at him knowingly and hoping he’d make some of those thoughts a reality. Then she fought against the heaviness in her chest as she wondered if she’d get to him in time to save him. She moved toward his desk opening the small top drawer on the left. He kept a key there and seeing it she grabbed it and headed toward the far wall. A new picture that sat on the bookcase nearby caught her eye. She remembered the night it was taken and it made her smile. Las Vegas, NV – 2 Weeks Ago… “Wow, I don’t believe we just did that!” She exhaled. “Damn woman, what was that move?” He moaned as he collapsed next to her. “No silly! I mean I don’t believe we just got married!” “Well we did and now you’re […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 23

Flashback continues… “Excuse me? What did you just say?” “I need you to help me end my life.” “Derek…what the hell!” “I just closed a case and…” “The one with the dirty agents?” “Yeah.” “So you closed a case. Go home to your family and fix things with Penelope.” “That’s just it, I don’t think it’s finished. The director wants it closed but…” “But what?” “It was too easy and I think the three men that were arrested were just the tip of a very large iceberg.” “This is bringing back some really bad memories.” “I know and that’s why I need your help. You faked your death to protect the rest of us. I need to fake mine to protect my family and the team.” “Do you remember what happened the last time…?” “I remember and I get it now. I know why you did what you did.” “And you know the damage it caused. I almost lost all of you for good. I think Reid is still pissed at me even though he’ll never admit it.” Several minutes passed before she said another word. The silence was thick and he knew he was asking a lot of her. He wanted to tell her that she owed him for all the months he’d searched for answers to her ‘death’ and he wanted to threaten to send her the bills for all of his therapy hours but he didn’t. He knew that what he was asking wasn’t fair to her […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 22

Fran knew something was wrong the moment he stepped through the door. His face, his eyes…he’d been crying. She took a step back away from him as he approached shaking her head, no. She didn’t want to hear what she already knew in her heart…the thing she’d feared everyday since Derek had decided to follow his father into law enforcement. Then he began to shake his head too as he quickly pulled her into his arms and cried. BAU Headquarters – Hotch’s Office – Something was off. Maybe she was in denial but her mind would not allow her to believe that Derek was dead. She wasn’t stupid, it was always a possibility that he’d be killed and god knew he’d taken his share of crazy chances all in the line of duty. Penelope had long ago lost count of the scars and bruises and broken bones but something wasn’t quite right. There were no goodbyes and no last words or touches. She had been pulled out of the restroom so fast and his body had been concealed in the black body bag and wheeled away…this wasn’t how her day was supposed to begin not today…not now. “I want to see him.” She knew it was Hotch even though she hadn’t turned to confirm his presence. Closing the door behind him he slowly took the seat on the couch next to her. He felt as if the weight of the world were on his shoulders and he swore to himself […]
