Will You Marry Me? Chapter 1

“Penelope, will you marry me?” She was speechless. Her mouth dropped and she could hardly believe her ears. Like every little girl, she’d dreamed of finding her knight-in-shining armor, getting married and riding off into the sunset to live happily ever after. Now here she was looking into eyes filled with expectancy and hope. She watched as he stood in front of her holding his breath waiting patiently for the answer that would make him the happiest man in the world. “Penelope?” “No! I-I won’t marry you!” “But…but…I love you! I’ve loved you for years now! Ever since I met you in the bullpen of the BAU…you were so, so, beautiful it took my breath away!” “I’m sorry…” “I know we’re meant to be together. We know everything there is to know about each other, we’ve been through hell and back and so I want to take things to the next level! Let’s forget the past and all of my dumb mistakes. Please Pen…do me the honors of being my wife!” “I said, NO Kevin! You know I’m with Derek…I’m in love with Derek!” Then she saw the look of expectancy and hope morph into disappointment and rage. “NO? Did you just say, no?” “That’s what I said…I cannot marry you, Kevin!” Kevin, with his face turning a bright shade of red took a step back and pulled his cellphone from his pocket. Garcia watched confused as he focused his attention on the phone’s screen while he pressed a few […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 6

Derek had beaten the sun up. He couldn’t sleep so he’d found himself sitting in the dark living room of his apartment working on his second cup of coffee. He wasn’t ready for the day, not by a long shot and the fact that he hadn’t slept well, made him feel even worse. He was glad Dave had shown up and glad that he’d decided to sleep over. The emptiness of the apartment had made him regret the last several weeks. He should have given Penelope what she wanted. He wished he hadn’t been so stubborn, insisting on his male pride over his wife and child. He ran each and every argument over and over in his mind and saw the hurt in his wife’s eyes and heard his daughter’s cries as the adult voices grew louder and louder. He prayed he could somehow get her to forgive him and take him back. “Couldn’t sleep, eh?” Derek looked up to see Dave enter the room. He’d helped himself to the coffee and Derek didn’t mind. “Nah. I’ve got to report to work in a couple of hours and I’m exhausted.” Dave sat in the chair across from the couch and stared intently at his stepson. “I don’t want this, Dave. I never thought I’d lose her. Not like this. Not over a case.” “The truth?” “Of course.” “You couldn’t have changed a thing.” “What?” “Penelope loves you. In spite of everything that has happened she still loves you.” “But it […]

Internal Affairs Chapter 18

Kevin was conflicted. On one hand Derek Morgan’s death would solve so many problems for him. He was the only witness to his crime, the only person who actually saw him during his kidnapping. On the other hand, he’d never been an evil person, never even thought of killing anyone including Morgan. Somehow he’d gotten caught up in Savannah’s insanity. The case against him was ironclad and he knew it. Penelope would never forgive him and no matter what he said his chances with her were history. He peered through the small window while the guard fished the keys from his pocket and unlocked the door. He didn’t recognize the well-dressed brunette at the table and he had no idea who would have hired her on his behalf. “I’ll be right outside the door. Let me know when you’re finished.” Kevin nodded and stepped into the room. The door slammed shut and the heavy lock slid into place. The woman slowly looked up as he sat across from her. “Kevin Lynch.” “Y-Yes.” “My name is Amanda Portlock and I’ve been retained as your attorney.” “I assumed I’d have a public defender. I can’t afford an attorney.” “No worries my fee has already been taken care of.” “By who?” “Let’s just say, a very interested benefactor.” Kevin adjusted his glasses, not sure if he should question her further. He watched as she pulled a file from her very expensive briefcase. “Now tell me what happened. How did you get mixed up […]

When Truth Comes Knocking Chapter 20

Home of Derek Morgan – Morning – He hadn’t slept. He couldn’t. The thought of being accused of playing a part in the death of thirteen boys was unsettling. How would he defend himself against such charges? One could make a strong case against him with so many victims who’d come after him. He’d never imagined that there could be others like him; young boys terrorized, humiliated and shamed by Carl Buford. Derek had believed the older man’s assessment that he’d brought it on himself. Carl would tell him each time they were together that Derek wanted what was happening and that he should feel proud to be chosen by him. Thinking about it now suddenly made him sick to his stomach. Penelope was exhausted. Neither one of them had slept with Derek battling his demons well into the early morning. She turned over watching as he jumped from the bed and rushed to the bathroom. The clock on the nightstand blinked seven a.m. and her pursuit of sleep would have to wait until later. So, she pulled herself from the warm bed and made her way to the kitchen. She started the coffee going and began busying herself making breakfast for the two of them. She heard the shower running and she knew it wouldn’t be long before he rounded the corner. Her cell rang and she breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of her friend’s name flashing on the screen. “JJ! Good morning.” “Hey, is everything […]

Internal Affairs Chapter 17

Savannah wiped the corners of her mouth as she watched her new “friend” pull up his zipper and stuff his shirt back into his pants. He was more than willing to find a secluded spot away from pesky surveillance cameras giving them privacy to work out the details of their alliance. His name was Oscar Clark and he was eager to help her in her time of need. The two looked at each other with unashamed smiles on their faces and she had to admit that the young guard had a lot to offer a woman behind bars. Savannah was resourceful if nothing else and more than that she was determined; determined to make Derek and Penelope pay for humiliating her. She didn’t like losing and she definitely had no plans on losing to the likes of Penelope Garcia. “I was serious, you know. Just say the word and I’ll end him.” Savannah smiled as she ran her hand down his chest then helping him with the last few buttons of his shirt. “Thank you lover but I want to be the one who takes the kill shot.” “That’s going to be a little hard to do seeing that you’re locked up, beautiful.” She kissed him thrusting her tongue deeply into his mouth as she pushed him against the wall. “I’m sure you can arrange for a little field trip, can’t you?” “I…I don’t know…” He felt her hand slip past his waistband into his boxers. He leaned his head […]

When Truth Comes Knocking Chapter 18

Doubletree Hotel – Morning – Penelope panicked when she woke up in bed alone. Her hand immediately went to his side of the bed. It was cold. Jumping up she looked around the room there was no noise coming from the bathroom, no sign of Derek. Her mind was flooded with a dozen doom and gloom scenarios. Her imagination was vivid with him being hurt or worse. His phone was still on the nightstand…he never left his phone. Just as she was about to call the others she heard the door open. The smell of coffee and fresh pastries preceded him as he walked in. He realized the magnitude of his leaving by the wide-eyed look of utter terror on her face. On any other day, him running out for breakfast would have been no big thing, but not now. Suddenly he regretted this simple act. “Damn it, Derek!” “What? I’m sorry I…” “I thought something had happened…that you’d done…” “He quickly set the drink carrier and bag down and rushed toward her pulling her in a sturdy embrace. “Whoa, whoa, Baby, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you worry. I just wanted to get us something to eat. I wasn’t thinking.” She suddenly lost her resolve and began crying against his chest. He held her without saying a word. She’d worried about him for weeks now and she’d reached her limit. “I’m sorry. I should have told you where I was going. Forgive me?” She shook her head, […]

Soul Purpose Chapter 4

Home of Derek and Penelope Morgan – Evening – Penelope sat across the kitchen table watching Kevin slurp his coffee. The sound made her stomach turn and the dribble of coffee on his chin disgusted her. Why did she let him in, she thought to herself. “Kevin, I’m sorry I just left without talking to you first, but…” Slurp! “I have to admit, I was disappointed when I saw your note.” “I’m sorry.” “It meant a lot for me to be able to be there for you, Pen. I am here for you…any time…day or night…if you need me.” “I know Kevin and I appreciate that. I just thought it would be better to be in my own home. Besides, Saraya needs to be around her own things.” “…And Derek? Where does he fit into all of this?” “Derek has been transferred to run the New York office.” Kevin tried hard to restrain his look of pleasure at the news. The further away Morgan was, the better. He looked at the woman across from him. She hadn’t taken a sip from her coffee and perhaps he shouldn’t push his luck so soon. So, reluctantly he stood to leave. Penelope was surprised that she didn’t have to insist that Kevin leave. He stood and so did she and without another word he headed out of the kitchen toward the front door. Just as he reached the front door he turned and looked her seriously in the eyes. “Look Penelope, I’m sure […]

Internal Affairs Chapter 16

2 Weeks Later… Home of Derek Morgan – Morning – It had been a week since Derek’s discharge from the hospital. He’d been allowed back to work on light duty, which meant he was stuck in Quantico when the team was out of town on cases. He hated being left behind but he still wasn’t feeling one hundred percent, which meant he couldn’t protest or complain. The only upside to the whole situation was that it gave him more time to be with Penelope. It was Saturday and it was good to be off. With the rest of the team just returning home from Miami, they’d all agreed to meet at Rossi’s later for dinner. Until then, Morgan had planned to tour a new property that his realtor had alerted him to. Since his release from the hospital, Penelope had been spending her time at his place and he was happy to have her around. He wanted it to be on a permanent basis but he was determined to take it slow; she was still dealing with guilt about everything that had happened with Kevin, Sam and Savannah. The two of them had skirted around the issue for weeks afraid to bring it up as if not speaking on it meant that it hadn’t happened. But it had happened and the nightly nightmares of being buried alive reminded him of that fact. This morning was one of the rare times that Penelope was not there. She’d gotten up early to […]

When Truth Comes Knocking Chapter 17

She’d finally convinced him to take a shower and get into bed. She watched him struggle to fall asleep before finally drifting off. In all the years she’d known him it had never gotten this bad. Penelope always assumed his nightmares were from the horrible things they saw on their job each day. In fact, most of the team didn’t even realize that he was haunted in his sleep just like they were. Morgan was the strong one of them all. He’d some how been able to compartmentalize keeping every thing in their neat, tiny places. He never seemed to crack or break like the others except of course when it involved children. Then his anger raged and it took a lot more effort on his part to work beyond it. Now she knew why. They all knew why and each one of his friends, especially her was clueless on how to help him. Just as Penelope stepped out of the shower, her phone rang. Quickly grabbing it she stepped into the hallway. “How’s it going Garcie?” “Not good. He’s in bad shape. He’s asleep now so maybe in the morning…” “It’s good that you came he needs you right now even if he won’t admit it.” “I’ve never seen him like this before, JJ. He tries so hard to hide his feelings…I never knew he was so broken.” “Morgan is strong and he’ll get over this, Pen. Hang in there.” “Yeah, always.” Then changing the subject slightly. “I guess […]

When Truth Comes Knocking Chapter 16

Derek was anxious to leave the hospital and head back home to Quantico. He needed distance between him and Chicago, the place where he normally ran to, not from. His mother had already left at his insistence, reluctantly honoring his wishes. Their conversation from the night before still lingered between them there was much more that needed to be said but for now Derek didn’t have the patience and Fran did not have the courage. The team had discussed their suspicions about Derek’s past and had agreed that until he confirmed anything none of them would broach the subject…for now. It was going to be difficult to pretend that things were normal, that this was just another case, but that was exactly what they would have to do to honor Morgan’s need for privacy. Hotch, Rossi, JJ, Penelope and Reid headed to the hospital immediately after breakfast to pick up Morgan. Cruz had instructed that they head back as soon as possible. Already their assistance had been requested in Baltimore, Maryland and he’d assured the lead detective that the entire team would arrive tomorrow morning. Hotch knew the fragile state of his team, not just Morgan but all of them yet his request for down time was refused. He hadn’t told the team that they had a case waiting on their return. He didn’t have the heart. Morgan was putting the last few things in his go-bag as the team pushed through the door. His broad smile caught them all […]
